Life on Pine

Bon Appetit

MV monday

Kate ParrishComment

the plant obsession continues, as we spent most of our labor day morning at plant warehouse. afterwards we had lunch at boo koo in mill valley – AMAZING vietnamese food, i can't wait to come back here. we chose to digest by hiking to the point bonita lighthouse and even though it was packed with tourists, it is definitely worth seeing. plus, our little treat from city beer store was the perfect way to cap the hike.

behind the scenes, we had some short ribs braising away back at home in the crock pot. we tried to make these once before and completely messed them up. the key is patience. putting this much time and effort into a meal might seem annoying – but the way the meat turns out if you do it correctly, is well worth it. recipe found here if you're up for it! cheers.

healdsburg & geyserville

Kate ParrishComment

this weekend we took a little staycation before things get kinda crazy in our worlds. saturday was pretty much perfect – we've been dying to go to healdsburg for.ev.er, and by 11am we were already up north and buckled into a little pick-up truck heading towards the russian river. we spent our afternoon canoeing, drinking my favorite beer, swimming, and admiring the insane scenery. i would recommend everyone do this asap if you're in the bay area.

afterwards we made our way back to our home for the night which was part of this crazy complex {all available rentals in complex included in that link} that is really just too hard to explain. an egyptian themed pool party with exotic birds, if you can imagine? after pool time we cleaned up and went to dinner at campo finathis spot couldn't have been better – outdoor seating, awesome food and cocktails, delicious dessert, and bocce ball.

pizzaiolo [in oakland]

Kate ParrishComment

pizzaiolo in oakland may be my new favorite restaurant ever. a few weeks back on our way in from tahoe, we made a little pit stop... little did we know that it happened to be the place we always walk by and say "we neeeeeed to go there". the outdoor patio, colorful decor, quality of the food {and the creativity}, combined with the amazing wine and cocktails made for the perfect afternoon.

^^ later we stopped at an awesome bar for some last minute oaklandness. this place is so up our alley – fresh cocktails, shuffle board, and outdoor space. i'll definitely be back.

try it tuesday @ hardwater

Kate ParrishComment

try it tuesday is le best tradition that has been around for years now – and i hope it never stops. sometimes, though, you need to put it on hold because you're spending too much money elsewhere. eating out in sf can really drain your wallet.

that being said – we're live! this week we tried a new spot on the embarcadero called hard water. in my opinion, it is kinda perfect. very small, tons of natural light, on the water, delish oysters and delish cocktails. it was a great start to reviving our TiT tradition! cheers and happy friday folks.

^^ i have high hopes to recreate this cocktail. it was seriously perfection. not kidding. PERFECTION.

summer bbq

Kate ParrishComment

saturday night we attended our first summer BBQ – these shindigs are hard to come by in a city that is usually foggy and fickin' windy. luckily some friends of ours are very grown up and have a beautiful home out in the woods of orinda, complete with a big ol' patio and a fabulous grill {not that kp's little toolbox gril isn't da'bomb}.

the night was spent drinking wine, having lots and lots of bbq'd things, and enjoying the peacefull quiet of the neighborhood. some people also had cigars, but i was not cool enough to join *sigh* cheers!
